“HELP?” NODO SAID, a worried look passing over his scaled face. “Y’mean for free?”

Han waved away the question as if it were crazy. “Of course not. I’m a very rich Hutt. I’d gladly pay for your services. And then maybe arrange an exclusive contract for any future work?”

Nodo’s eyes gleamed with avarice. “What kind of sum are we talkin’?”

Han plucked a figure out of the air. “Oh, I don’t know. Ten, maybe twenty million…”

The reptilian’s mouth dropped open.

Behind Han, Meech took a step forward. “But you said you didn’t have—”

The rest of the woman’s sentence was lost as Nodo pressed a button on his belt. Electricity coursed over Meech’s arms and legs and she dropped to the floor, gasping in agony.

“Is she all right?” Han asked, concerned.

Nodo wrinkled his nose at the girl. “Meech is a cyborg, and her bionic limbs malfunction from time to time.” He gestured for the Hoopaloo to help Meech to her feet. “Don’t worry. Skreech will look after her.”

The bird man scurried over to Meech and hauled her up none too kindly.

“You okay?” Han asked her.

Before she could answer, two of Nodo’s arms wrapped around Han’s shoulders, guiding him away.

“It’s gonna be a pleasure doing business with you, Jabba. We’ll get your ship up and runnin’ in no time. While you wait, why don’t you relax in my personal yacht.” He indicated the sleek ship Han had already plundered. “You hungry? Thirsty? Anything you want, it’s yours. From now on, my home is your home.”

Han grinned. Maybe he was going to like it there after all.
